The DCPNS Diabetes Guidelines in Long Term Care project is 
progressing well. Two diabetes guidelines have been developed for 
elderly residents with diabetes in long term care facilities in Nova 
Scotia.  They are:  Hypoglycemia and Targets for Glycemic Control.  
The guidelines were formatted into a pocket reference tool and 
piloted in three LTC facilities (1 rural and 2 urban) in Nova 
Scotia.  Overall the pocket reference tool was well received.  Minor 
changes will be made to the pocket tool.  Before its release a 
continuing education teleheath session will take place for healthcare 
professionals in LTC facilities and diabetes educators and any 
outstanding issues with the guidelines will be addressed.
