Each year, early in September, the DCPNS produces and distributes Provincial, District, and Diabetes Centre-specific statistical reports for the previous fiscal year. These reports are generated from Diabetes Centre data submitted monthly (either electronically by those Centres using the DCPNS Registry or manually) to the DCPNS. These reports include, among others, the number of newly diagnosed cases of diabetes referred to Diabetes Centres as well as the total number of visits (including follow-up, phone follow-up) and insulin starts. This data is provided by the area in which the patient was seen (inpatient, outpatient, or satellite site) as well as by age grouping (youth or adult). Statistical Report Packages are accompanied by an interpretation sheet and are comprised of tables and graphs to assist with local use (sharing) and interpretation. Onsite DCPNS Registry users are also provided with annual reports that provide data on each Diabetes Centres' current population. This report provides a description of the population seen during the period indicated (usually by most recent calendar year). In 2008, the detailed report focused on the adult population (≥ age 19 years) and those with types 1 and 2 diabetes only (excluding prediabetes and pregnancy related categories). In addition to a description of the population (mean age, duration of diabetes, diabetes treatment type, mean BMI, etc.) , information is included on utilization (average number of visits per treatment type, frequency of ordering reporting of laboratory and other assessments, etc.) as well as data specific to clinical and self-care outcomes or indicators. Where possible, data on the clinical indicators has been reported according to recommended targets as per the CDA Clinical Practice Guidelines.
